The Cathedral of the Incarnation in Nashville was a solemn place on Wednesday (March 6), as a couple hundred mourners gathered shortly after 1pm to honor the late country star Mindy McCready.
Less than a month ago, the country star took her own life at her home in Arkansas. This tragedy came just weeks following another equally tragic event–the suicide of Mindy’s boyfriend, record producer David Wilson.
Following her death, Mindy’s family and fans were given a glimpse into her mindset with the posthumous release of her song “I’ll See You Yesterday”, which she recorded just days before claiming her own life. The song was written by Courtney Dashe, who revealed to E! News she had no idea McCready had even recorded the song until after her death.
Reverend Edward F. Steiner welcomed guests at the start of the service, and then the church was filled with the sounds of “I’ll See You Yesterday.” Family members and some of McCready’s friends from the music industry all took a few moments to speak to the crowd. One was band leader Jimmy Nichols, who took the time to speak about the sacrifices people should personally make to help their friends in need. “We should look deeper into the lives of those of us who cry out for help and see if there isn’t more that we can do to make a difference in others’ lives, even if it means some sacrifices within our own.”
